Senators defenseman Chris Phillips will be out three to four weeks with a sprained left knee.

Phillips was injured in Tuesday night's loss to New Jersey when he collided with Devils forward Zach Parise and left the game.

Coach Bryan Murray said Wednesday that Mike Fisher and Anton Volchenkov could return from injuries for Thursday's game against the New York Rangers.

Scott Gomez made Lou Lamoriello's decision easy.

Gomez scored the only shootout goal to give the New Jersey Devils an important 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

"Gomez has been scoring lately," said coach Lamoriello after the Devils won for just the second time in six games and third time in nine to move into a tie for sixth place with Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference.

"We could have gone with anyone, but he's had a hot hand," Lamoriello said.

Scott Gomez scored the only goal of a shootout Tuesday night to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

After the teams played to a draw through overtime, it took a controversial goal in the NHL's new tiebreaker to snap the deadlock.

Gomez tried to deke Ray Emery on New Jersey's third shootout try but was stopped as the goaltender slid back into the net. The goal counted after a video review.

Martin Brodeur stopped Daniel Alfredsson to seal the victory.
